  • Lionel Messi's recent displays are erasing doubts regarding his capacity to excel beyond Barcelona's confines

  • Messi has transformed Inter Miami's fate, propelling them to their first final and elevating their global standing

Lionel Messi's consistent standout performances in the American continent are dispelling the reservations many people once had concerning the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.

This shift also includes legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson's perspective in the context of comparing Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Merely a month into his MLS journey, Messi is revolutionising Inter Miami's destiny, propelling his team to their first club final in history, achieving this milestone with only six appearances in North America.

As a result, Inter Miami have secured a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup by virtue of their qualification for the league's cup final, marking yet another groundbreaking achievement within the club's five-year history.

Proving himself beyond the comforts of Barcelona was a feat some questioned whether Messi could accomplish, even including the esteemed Sir Alex Ferguson among the sceptics.

Back then, Messi had solely represented one club, Barcelona, in La Liga. On the other hand, Ronaldo had an extensive history, playing for Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, Manchester United in England, Real Madrid in Spain, and Juventus in Italy.

Ronaldo's remarkable journey encompassed not only various countries and clubs, but his exceptional performance in each league underscored his extraordinary skill and adaptability, demonstrating his prowess across diverse countries and competitions.

Ferguson on Messi vs Ronaldo

According to The Mirror, Ex-Manchester United's iconic manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, shared his thoughts in 2015 on the highly debated Messi vs Ronaldo topic, stating:

"People say, 'Who is the best player in the world?' And plenty of people quite rightly say Messi - you can't dispute that opinion. But Ronaldo could play for Millwall, Queens Park Rangers, Doncaster Rovers… anyone, and score a hat-trick in a game. I'm not sure Messi could do it. Ronaldo's got two feet; he's quick, great in the air, he's brave - Messi's brave, of course. I think Messi's a Barcelona player."

Messi proves Sir Alex wrong

The sheer numbers Messi has amassed since entering the league have shattered this notion.

Over the course of six matches with Inter Miami, the Argentine has netted nine goals and provided one assist.

Messi achieved a remarkable feat by scoring back-to-back braces against Atlanta United, Orlando City, and FC Dallas, respectively, in the initial phases of the Leagues Cup.

The Barcelona legend has managed to find the net in every match, boasting an average of 53 minutes per goal and 47 minutes per goal contribution during his brief stint in Miami.

Messi's impact on Inter Miami

Messi's impact extends beyond Inter Miami's on-field achievements; he has also significantly boosted the team's revenue.

As reported by Clutch Points, the least expensive ticket for the Leagues Cup final is expected to surpass the cost of last season's UEFA Champions League final ticket ($77.50).

It's been disclosed that fans will need to shell out a minimum of $484.45 to secure entry into the stadium on Saturday.

The semi-final match against Philadelphia Union saw ticket prices soar significantly, yet they managed to sell out.

SeatGeek reported that the most affordable ticket to witness Messi in action reached as high as $422 (approximately £333).

This marks a substantial contrast from the Union's ticket cost for their subsequent home game against FA Dallas, which was merely $15 (£11).

Since Messi's MLS debut, fans have been splurging extraordinary sums. Resale prices for his first appearance against Cruz Azul in July hit an astonishing $110,000 (£86,000) for the World Cup winner's debut.

Messi's introduction has turned the MLS into a major draw for numerous enthusiasts, elevating the league's reputation through his immense star influence.

Messi scores 'golazo' against Nashville

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Lionel Messi crowned an amazing Leagues Cup tournament with a sensational strike as Inter Miami defeated Nashville SC to win the competition.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner opened the scoring after dazzling his way through a number of defenders before curling from outside the box to break the game's deadlock.

Nashville pulled level in the second half through Fafa Picault to send the game into extra-time, before it was eventually settled on penalties.
