  • Wilfried Zaha was involved in a hilarious gaffe during an outing with Galatasaray
  • The winger joined the Turkey Super Lig giants from Crystal Palace in the summer
  • In a game against Olimpija Ljubljana, Zaha failed miserably at a fancy first touch

An interesting clip has emerged online appearing to show Mauro Icardi and Dries Mertens laughing at their new teammate, Wilfried Zaha, after a poor first touch.

Zaha was making his second appearance for Galatasaray on August 15 as the Turkish giants came up against Slovenian champions, Olimpija Ljubljana, in a Champions League qualification game.

Overall, the 30-year-old showed loads of promise as he was a constant menace for Ljubljana down the flanks.

Yet gaffes and footballing mistakes happen even to the best players and Zaha is no exception as he went viral on social media for all the wrong reasons.

Having been brought on at half-time, he appeared to have difficulty controlling a bouncing ball on the touchline, with his teammates just a few yards behind him on the bench.

As reported by Daily Star, Zaha knocked the ball out for a throw-in and cameras immediately panned to his teammates, who appeared to be in hysterics on the bench over the incident.

In all fairness, it was easy to see why Icardi saw the funny side to Zaha’s hilarious first touch as it initially looked like a simple ball to the former Crystal Palace man.

As far as the game was concerned, the Argentine had given his side the lead in the 24th minute with a header after placing himself in an offside position.

Galatasaray will now advance to the next round of Champions League qualification following a 4-0 aggregate win after a 3-0 victory in the first leg.

Zaha’s record at Palace

As a Crystal Palace player, Zaha made 453 appearances, making him one of the longest-serving players at the club.

Upon his departure, he shared an emotional letter to the fans that read:

"I want to thank [Palace chairman] Steve Parish, all of my team-mates, coaches and the entire Palace fanbase for always believing in me and encouraging me to get to where I am today."

Crystal Palace confirm Zaha's departure

Sports Brief previously reported on Zaha finalising his transfer to Galatasaray after his contract with Crystal Palace expired earlier this year.

The 30-year-old Ivorian became a free agent and decided to turn down an offer from the Glaziers, instead opting for a new Super Lig journey.
