Neymar Junior has explained the reasoning behind his unconventional yet bold decision to exchange the European football scene for the riches of Saudi Arabia.

Under the terms of his new agreement, the former Barcelona forward has secured a two-year contract that is anticipated to yield an annual income of approximately $100 million.

This amount stands at about half of the reported earnings of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is 38 years old, according to Al Jazeera.

Despite the substantial financial incentives associated with his move and the prevailing opinions about players who relocated to the oil-rich region, Neymar explained his decision to move to the Middle East was propelled by his aspiration to become a 'global player,' with his focus on personal growth outweighing monetary considerations.

Additionally, he highlighted his hunger for 'novel challenges and fresh prospects in different locales' as an additional motivation for his choice.

Speaking to the press for the first time after he completed his move, he said, as quoted by Daily Post:

"I have achieved a lot in Europe and enjoyed special times, but I have always wanted to be a global player and test myself with new challenges and opportunities in new places. I want to write new sporting history, and the Saudi Pro League has tremendous energy and quality players at the moment."

Al-Hilal confirms Neymar transfer

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Al-Hilal announcing the signing of Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain via a captivating video, as the forward concluded his six-season tenure with the French club.

Neymar now joins the likes of reigning Ballon d'Or holder Karim Benzema, two-time African Player of the Year Sadio Mane, and N'Golo Kante, all of whom have followed the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Where Neymar ranks among SPL's top earners

Sports Brief also reported where Neymar ranks among the top earners in the Saudi Pro League after confirming his new destination in the Middle East.

Amid the exodus of stars from Europe to the oil-rich nation, the Brazilian completed his switch from PSG to Al-Hilal on a two-year multi-millions deal.
