Chelsea have been involved in some of the biggest transfer deals in Premier League and football history.

Here is a look at how Chelsea’s record deals rank over the years.

1. Moises Caicedo - £115 million

Chelsea strengthened their lineup days after the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season, paying Brighton a British-record fee of £115 million to sign Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo.

It was a stunning signing by the Blues, who hijacked Liverpool’s attempt to land the 21-year-old.

2. Enzo Fernandez - £107 million

Chelsea signed Fernandez from Benfica last January in a deal worth £107 million, smashing the British transfer record at the time.

The Argentine star’s signing failed to inspire the Blues, who finished the 2022/23 Premier League season in 12th place following a string of poor results after the January transfer window.

3. Romelu Lukaku - £97.5 million

Lukaku moved to Chelsea from Inter Milan in August 2021 after the Blues forked out £97.5 million to acquire his services, per Sky Sports.

That amount made the Belgian the most expensive forward in club history.

Lukaku played for Chelsea before, leaving the club in 2014 after making just 15 appearances.

Chelsea decided to acquire his services again after he led Inter to their first Scudetto in 11 years, scoring 24 goals in the 2020-21 Serie A season.

Lukaku failed to live up to the hype in his second stint with the Blues, moving to Inter Milan on loan after just one season.

4. Mykhailo Mudryk - £87 million

Chelsea reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk last January, signing midfielder Mudryk in a deal worth an initial £62 million. The fee could potentially rise to £87 million with add-ons, per The Mirror.

5. Wesley Fofana - £75 million

Chelsea paid Leicester City £75 million including add-ons to acquire the services of Fofana last year.

With the deal, he became the third-most expensive defender in history, trailing only Harry Maguire and Virgil van Dijk.

6. Kepa Arrizabalaga - £72 million

Chelsea made Kepa the world’s most expensive goalkeeper in 2018, paying Athletic Bilbao £72 million to land the Spanish star.

He’s set to join Real Madrid on loan this season after Thibaut Courtois suffered an ACL injury.

7. Kai Havertz – £71 million

Chelsea splashed the cash after failing to win any trophies in the 2019/20 season, signing Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee worth £71 million.

He helped the Blues win the Champions League in 2021, scoring the only goal in the final against Manchester City.

Havertz was sold to Arsenal for £65 million last June.

8. Marc Cucurella - £60 million

Chelsea signed Cucurella from Brighton last year in a deal worth £60 million.

He followed the arrivals of Raheem Sterling from Man City, Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, Gabriel Slonina from Chicago Fire, and Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa.

He is rumoured to join Newcastle on loan this year.

9. Alvaro Morata - £58 million

The Blues completed the signing of Morata from Real Madrid in 2017 for a transfer fee of £58 million.

He failed to impress during his stint with Chelsea, scoring just 16 goals in 47 appearances for the club.

He joined Atletico Madrid on loan in 2019 and made the switch permanent in 2020.

10. Christian Pulisic - £57.6 million

Rounding out the top 10 is Pulisic. The Blues paid Bayer Leverkusen £57.6 million to land the American star in January 2019.

He was loaned back to the German giants for the remainder of the 2018-19 season, with Pulisic starting his Chelsea career in the 2019-20 campaign.

The deal made Pulisic the most expensive North American player of all time. He left Chelsea this year to join AC Milan.

Premier League title favourites

Sports Brief recently reported on the favourites to win the Premier League this season.

Bookmakers installed Manchester City as -150 favourites to win their fourth consecutive league title.

The Gunners are pegged at +500 to end their title drought in the English top flight.
