  • Brighton have accepted Liverpool’s British-record bid for Moises Caicedo
  • The Reds reportedly lodged a £110 million offer for the Ecuadorian star
  • Liverpool hijacked Chelsea’s attempt to sign the 21-year-old

Now that was a shock.

The Moises Caicedo transfer saga is coming to an end, and surprisingly it is not Chelsea who will be acquiring his services.

Liverpool swooped in at the last minute, submitting a British-record bid to land the Brighton midfielder.

According to The Athletic, the Reds have lodged a bid worth up to £110 million, and the Seagulls have accepted this offer.

Brighton reportedly set a Thursday midnight deadline for both Liverpool and Chelsea regarding their Caicedo offers.

They made it clear that they would sell to the highest bidder, with Jurgen Klopp's side emerging victorious with their massive offer. Chelsea only managed to put forward a bid worth up to £100 million.

Agreeing to personal terms with Caicedo is not expected to be an issue for Liverpool, and a medical is now scheduled for Friday.

Liverpool hijack Chelsea's Caicedo deal

Caicedo moving to Anfield would be a major blow for the Blues, given their lengthy pursuit of the 21-year-old this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino identified him as his top transfer target, which became even more important following the news that Christopher Nkunku will miss several months because of a knee injury.

Chelsea have had multiple offers rejected by Brighton, per The Guardian. They still appeared primed to land Caicedo before the transfer window closes this September.

The Blues have been trying to negotiate a lower fee for Caicedo, but Brighton wouldn’t budge with their £100 million asking price.

What Chelsea didn’t expect was Liverpool coming in at the last minute to bid for Caicedo.

The Reds’ pursuit of Caicedo started after Chelsea tried to hijack Liverpool’s attempt to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

They did the same to Chelsea, with Caicedo now headed for a stunning move to Merseyside.

Haaland leads Golden Boot favourites

Sports Brief recently reported on the favourites for the Golden Boot award this coming 2023-24 Premier League season.

Erling Haaland has been installed as the odds-on favourite to win the coveted award for the second straight year.

He broke the Premier League record last season, scoring 36 goals for Manchester City.
