  • Bayern Munich are closing in on signing Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur
  • A potential addition of the striker would mark Bayern's third English player
  • Owen Hargreaves has the distinction of the first Englishman to join Bayern

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly agreed to Bayern Munich's fourth proposal for Harry Kane, signalling a potential departure for the revered striker figure from his lifelong team.

Despite rejecting three prior offers from the German champions, Spurs remained resolute in upholding their purported £100 million assessment.

With the deadline looming for the Bavarian giants, Kane emphasised the urgency of resolving his future by Sunday, coinciding with Tottenham's Premier League opener against Brentford, the Sun reported.

However, the situation has taken a turn, as Bayern's fourth offer of approximately £94mil has reportedly been greenlit by Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy.

Should this be accurate, the leading goal-scorer in Tottenham history will join the ranks of Die Roten as the commencement of the 2023/24 season approaches.

This prospect would make him the third English player to don the Bayern Munich jersey.

Sports Brief looks at the other Englishmen who have previously represented the Bundesliga giants:

Owen Hargreaves

Canadian-born to an English dad and Welsh mom, Hargreaves embarked on his professional journey in the Calgary foothills before his path led him to Bayern at the age of 16, following a triumphant trial.

After spending a couple of years honing his skills in the club's youth setup, he made his breakthrough into Ottmar Hitzfeld's senior team at the turn of the 21st century. The Canadian-born's rise was both rapid and dazzling.

Within a year of his Bayern debut, the youthful Hargreaves assumed a midfield role and received accolades for his role in containing Pablo Aimar during the 2001 UEFA Champions League final, where the German side triumphed over Valencia in a penalty shootout.

While injuries started to impede his progress, Hargreaves - who earned his maiden England cap in August 2001 - continued to establish himself as a true standout in Bavaria, per 90Min.

Despite frequently entertaining the notion of playing in England, the dependable and industrious midfielder persisted in leaving his mark whenever he was called upon, leading to a lengthy spell at Bayern. However, the allure of Manchester United eventually proved irresistible, prompting him to join the Red Devils in 2007.

He concluded his German chapter with an illustrious resume that featured a Champions League victory, four Bundesliga championships, and an impressive tally of 218 appearances for Bayern Munich.

Omar Richards

While Hargreaves gained widespread recognition after making his mark at Bayern, Richards remained relatively unknown following a brief stint with the record-holding club.

His decision to join the Bavarians was undoubtedly intriguing, as he arrived on a free transfer in 2021 after the expiration of his contract with Reading in England.

Despite this unconventional move, Richards had showcased his skills effectively with the Royals. Bayern's former sporting director described him as a 'technically adept left-sided defender' and held the belief that he would contribute positively within the Bayern setup, although the specifics remained unclear.

Expectations were tempered and the Englishman's tenure in Germany lasted only a year. Despite initially signing a four-year contract with Die Roten, the agile left-back moved to Nottingham Forest in 2022 for a nominal fee.

Toure advises Kane on transfer

Sports Brief previously reported on former Manchester City, Yaya Toure giving advice to Kane as the Englishman enters a crucial stage of his career in what could be his final move.

The Ivorian midfielder is opposed to the striker leaving North London and feels that retiring at Tottenham and achieving legendary status like Paolo Maldini is the better choice.
