Legendary Ghanaian midfielder, Michael Essien made a return to Stamford Bridge for a charity match aimed at raising funds for schools in Ukraine.

The former Chelsea star featured as Team Shevchenko and Team Zinchenko played out an exciting 2-2 draw, with goals from Mark Noble and Darijo Srna cancelled out by Clarence Seedorf and William Gallas.

The match dubbed as Game4Ukraine, was played in support of Ukraine following the invasion of the country by Russia.

"Excited to meet up with some ex-teammates and other legends at Stamford Bridge on Aug 5th for Game4Ukraine. You can get tickets now at game4ukraine.com," wrote Essien on social media.

The ex-Ghana international reunited with former teammates, including John Terry and Ashley Cole at a fully-filled Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Essien has been carving his path in football management since hanging up his boots and currently works as an assistant coach at Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland.

The 40-year-old enjoyed a remarkable career in England, winning several titles including the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League with the Blues, as reported by Transfermarkt.

Essien pays tribute to Azpilicueta

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Former Ghana midfielder, Michael Essien has paid a glowing tribute to Cesar Azpilicueta following his departure from Chelsea.

The Spanish defender leaves Chelsea after eleven successful years with the London club.

Essien briefly played with Azpilicueta before leaving Chelsea in 2014 to join Italian giants AC Milan.

Essien names favourite stadium

Former Chelsea midfielder, Michael Essien has described the atmosphere at Anfield as amazing.

The Ghana legend played several times at Anfield in duels involving Chelsea and Liverpool in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Despite spending a season at the Santiago Bernabeu during his loan spell with Real Madrid, the 40-year-old believes Liverpool have the best venue in Europe.
