7 Bizarre MOTM Awards After Haaland’s Giant Cheque in Japan

Erling Haaland returned to action for Manchester City after an extended break following a treble-winning debut season, where he won the league golden boot and was named the best player.

He came off the bench to score twice to help the Citizens to a 5-3 victory over Yokohama F.Marinos and was named man of the match and was awarded a giant cheque of ¥1,000,000 which equates to £5,505, a small fraction of his £375,000 per week at City.

4. A fish

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard was given a fish after winning Real Sociedad Player of the Month during his loan spell at the club. He was given at a supermarket in Donostia.

5. Video game

West Ham winger Said Benrahma, during his days at Brentford, was given a version of Crash Bandicoot video game as a reward for his man-of-the-match performance that knocked Premier League side Fulham out of the Carabao Cup.

6. Big credit card

ABSA Bank gave Kaiser Chiefs striker George Maleluka a big credit card for being the man of the match in 2014. Indeed, it was worth 2,000 Rands.

7. Set of cooking pots

According to El Futbolero, Olimpia FC of Paraguay female footballer Dohiana Bogarin was given cooking pot sets for her brilliant display in her team's 3-1 win over Guarani.

Fans react to Haaland's cheque

Sports Brief reported how fans reacted to Haaland's big cheque in Japan, with many focusing on the amount of money it is worth compared to how much the striker earns.

It represents less than 2% of his earning at Manchester City, and a small plaque could have been worthy and cost the organisers less.
