Lionel Messi has been announced as the newest addition to Major League Soccer (MLS) team, Inter Miami. The 36-year-old superstar's acquisition by the club was revealed on Saturday, July 15th.

Following his remarkable career with Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona, where he achieved success in virtually every major competition, Messi now embarks on a new chapter in his career in the MLS.

Signing a two-year contract that concludes in 2025, he bids farewell to Europe and PSG, his immediate-past club prior to his American sojourn, according to Sky Sports.

The long-awaited announcement of Messi's arrival was met with anticipation from fans, and the club celebrated their marquee signing by sharing a captivating video across their various social media platforms, GOAL reports.

Before making his move to the MLS, Messi declined a more financially rewarding offer from Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal, while a return to his beloved boyhood club Barcelona was deemed financially unfeasible.

Inter Miami officially announce Messi

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has signed a contract until 2025 with Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer team announced on Saturday.

The 36-year-old striker, who sparked Argentina to a World Cup title last year in Qatar, is set to be unveiled by the team in a Sunday ceremony and expected to join Inter Miami on the pitch as early as Friday.

"I'm very excited to start this next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States," Messi, who moves from Paris Saint-Germain, said in a statement.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Lionel Messi is on the verge of becoming an Inter Miami player officially after he jetted into the US to seal the move.

Messi was initially linked with an emotional reunion with Barcelona after his stint with PSG, but the transfer did not materialise.

The World Cup-winning star instead chose to move to the Major League Soccer, with the imminent move confirmed more than a month ago
