  • Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest football managers of all time
  • The Spaniard has achieved success in three countries with three teams
  • He won his second treble with Manchester City with Erling Haaland as his lead striker

Pep Guardiola can retire today, and he already has his name in the history book as one of the greatest managers football has seen, with many undeniable moments of brilliance and greatness.

Guardiola has managed three clubs across a 15-year career - Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City. He has also managed some of the best players in the world - Lionel Messi, the greatest of them all.

Sports Brief looks at the top seven strikers who played for the Spanish manager, including Sergio Aguero and Samuel Eto'o.

1. Samuel Eto'o

The African legend moved the other way when Ibrahimovic moved from Inter Milan to Barcelona. He was part of the 2009 treble-winning squad in Guardiola's first season. He scored 36 goals and provided nine assists in 52 games.

2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The retired big Swede striker played only one season under Pep, the 2009/2010 season, before moving to AC Milan on loan the following year after a public spat which resulted in the striker slating the manager, as reported by Reuters. He scored 22 goals and provided 13 assists in 46 games.

3. Thierry Henry

Henry spent three years at Barcelona after leaving Arsenal in 2007 and won the treble under Guardiola before leaving in 2010. He hit 30 goals and provided a further 15 assists in 74 appearances.

4. David Villa

The former Spanish international was signed by Guardiola from Valencia in 2010. He scored a brilliant goal in the 2011 Champions League final against Manchester United and described it as his most important one, as reported by Sports Mole. He played 76 times for Pep, scored 32 goals and assisted 15.

5. Robert Lewandowski

Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer from rivals Borussia Dortmund at the end of Pep's first season in Germany. He hit a century of appearances and scored 67 goals and 19 assists in their two seasons together. He's currently at the manager's former club, Barcelona and won the league title and golden boot in his first year.

6. Sergio Aguero

The Argentine striker had some of his best Manchester City years under the Spanish boss. He played 182 games, scored 124 goals and provided 29 assists. He left for Barcelona after the 2021 Champions League loss to Chelsea but retired months after suffering cardiac arrhythmia.

7. Erling Haaland

The Norwegian has played just one season under the tactician but has scored more than some legendary strikers. He scored 52 goals and provided nine assists in 53 appearances as he helped Man City to a historic treble in his first season.

Guardiola's beloved Lionel Messi and Thomas Muller are the other two top players to appear under the three-time Champions League winner, but they were not proper strikers, only a workable experiment as number 9.

Eto'o prefers Mourinho to Guardiola

Sports Brief reported that Samuel Eto'o chose Mourinho as the perfect manager, having played under both iconic managers in the best eras of his illustrious career.

The Cameroonian won the consecutive treble in 2009 and 2010 under both managers but has chosen the Special One as the one he enjoyed working with the most.
