  • Vinicius Junior has taken to Twitter to celebrate Arda Guler signing for Real Madrid
  • Guler chose to sign with Los Blancos despite being heavily tipped to join Barcelona
  • The 18-year-old prodigy penned a six-year deal at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium

Arda Guler will join Real Madrid despite intense interest from Barcelona, as has happened with a number of other young players who were pursued by the two Spanish powerhouses and ultimately chose to don the white jersey.

The same situation now being repeated with Guler was true in the cases of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo de Goes, and Endrick - the three Brazilians who were signed by Los Blancos as teenagers.

Vinicius and Rodrygo are already important players at Real Madrid, while Endrick is still in Brazil until the summer of 2024.

It got to the point where both publicly welcomed the Turk, and the former did not hesitate to make a statement aimed at Real Madrid's El Clasico rivals, Barcelona.

"Another one who chooses the greatest [club]," Vinicius wrote on social media, retweeting the official announcement of Guler joining the Spanish capital giants.

Given that Vini had to choose between joining what he considers to be the biggest club in the world, Barcelona, or Real Madrid, the message carried symbolic significance.

Another Real Madrid star, Rodrygo, also rejoiced over the signing of Guler, via Twitter:

"Another talent joins our Madridista family! Welcome," the former Santos player wrote.

Guler's fine season at Fenerbahce

In the 2022-23 season, the Turkish star made 35 appearances, scoring six goals and registering seven assists for Super Lig club, Fenerbahce.

Sports Brief also reported on one of Guler's best more recent performances in the Turkish Cup final when they defeated Basaksehir 2-0.

Players snubbing Barcelona for Madrid

Sports Brief also analysed eight players who decided to snub Barcelona to sign for their eternal nemesis, Real Madrid, following the signing of Guler.

The 18-year-old, who has emerged as one of the most promising prospects in European football and was compared to Lionel Messi, signed a six-year deal.

Guler had a €17.5 million release clause and Los Blancos paid that transfer fee to beat off competition from rival club, Barcelona to sign the teenager.
