- David De Gea shared another cryptic post on social media amid his uncertain future
- The Spaniard is a free agent after his contract at Manchester United ended recently
- His team have since stepped up their interest in Inter Milan star keeper Andre Onana
Spanish goalkeeper, David De Gea, was at it again on social media as he shared another cryptic message amid growing uncertainty over his future.
The veteran shot-stopper failed to agree with Manchester United on a contract renewal, which rendered him a free agent as of July 1.
The two parties remain in talks over a new deal, but United boss, Erik ten Hag, has reportedly shifted his focus to Inter Milan's Andre Onana.
Amid continued uncertainty over his future, De Gea took to Twitter with simple post - an emoji of a person juggling different-coloured balls, which has left fans speculating again.
Some believe the emoji is the keeper's way of highlighting the drama engulfing his football career at the moment, considering the continued talk about his next club destination.
Last Saturday, De Gea also got married to his long-time partner, Edurne Almagro, and SportBible believes his tweet suggested he was finding it difficult to juggle being a newlywed and contract talks.
Interestingly, the tweet came just a week after the 32-year-old posted a 'yawn' emoji on Twitter, but this cryptic post came at a time when his 350,000-per-week contract was running down.
United’s other goalkeeping options
As per football insider, Fabrizio Romano, United had a £39 million offer for Onana rejected by Inter, who believe the Cameroonian is worth much more.
Despite this, the Red Devils are reportedly confident they can strike an agreement with the Nerazzuri, after agreeing on personal terms with the star.
Andre Onana could become Man United player in coming days as clubs gear up for talks
FootballUnited also have other names on their shortlist in the goalkeeping department, including Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow and Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp.
The club’s second-choice goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, returned from a loan spell at Nottingham Forest early due to injury but could return to the City Ground next season.
De Gea staying at United?
Sports Brief also reported on the English club's recent online activity, which has suggested United could retain De Gea next season.
The club launched their 2023/24 home kit on June 27 and even though the keeper was not included, the club shop provided a hint.
De Gea's name was printed on the goalkeeper kit on the online store, which suggests a new contract may have been agreed upon.
