Ghanaians have been left disappointed following the Black Meteors' heavy defeat to Morocco at the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.

The Black Meteors suffered a 5-1 defeat at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium on Tuesday night, leaving the team in dire need of a win in their final group match against Guinea to progress to the second round.

A brace from Ismael Saibairi and strikes from Michael Richardson, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, and Yanis Begraoui ensured the Moroccans are through to the semis. Salim Adams got a consolation for Ghana.

Ghanaians took to social media to react to the performance of the team.

How Ghanaians reacted:

We need a reboot. Our football is at an all time low. It’s not just the results, technically, the players are so poor. Tactically, same. All levels too. We don’t have dribblers, we don’t have passers, we don’t have shooters. From the GPL to the Black Stars. Forget the result against Congo, the football itself was so so bad. We play terrible football!

@garyalsmith added:

Looking through the records, and beyond Ghana losing 1-6 against Germany in April 1994 (friendly), tonight's 5-1 loss has to be the most humiliating loss for a men's team. Fact that it happened at a tournament is even worse.

@officialsitso posted:

This is my fear for the Black Meteors. Turn around time in tournament football is short. You can't train properly, you have no time to change systems and style significantly. These are things you can only do with very highly skilled elite footballers. So if your team turns up at the tournament and they are bad it's incredibly difficult to change that significantly. This tournament is worse because the turn around time is two days. The boys will do a recovery tomorrow, train on Thursday and then play on Friday. It's tough when preparation isn't premium and squad quality doesn't allow you to significantly change things.

@theyawofosu also tweeted:

5-1. Chastening, embarrassing but necessary. A necessary reminder that no matter how much hubris we have about being Ghana and having talent, not maximizing that talent will lead us nowhere. Team looked so poor today. Poor in every department. It wasn’t a pretty watch at all.

Morocco thrash Black Meteors

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the Black Meteors of Ghana were blown apart by Morocco in their second group game at the Africa U23 Cup of Nations following a 5-1 defeat on Tuesday night.

Morocco wasted no time in establishing their intentions after Michael Richardson scored just seven minutes into the game before Ismael Saibiri doubled the lead six minutes later.

The Atlas Lions extended their lead following a brilliant team play which resulted in Yanis Begraoui adding the third after the 30th-minute mark.
