Mateo Kovacic has opened up on his decision to dump Chelsea to seal a sensational summer transfer move to Manchester City.
The Croatian midfielder became City's first signing of the summer after the Premier League champions agreed to pay Chelsea £25m plus £5m in add-ons for his signature.
According to Metro UK, Kovacic has signed a four-year deal with the Cityzens, with the midfielder touted as a possible replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, who has joined Barcelona.
The 29-year-old's move to the Manchester club came after he spent close to five years at Stamford Bridge.
During the period, the Croatia international made over 220 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, with the Champions League among the major titles he won with the West London outfit.
Why Kovacic joined Man City
Kovacic has now come out to explain his decision to swap Chelsea for Man City.
According to the midfielder, he chose City, who he believes are the best team, because he wants to take his game to the next level under Pep Guardiola.
"This is a brilliant move for me, and I cannot wait to get started with City," he told the club’s official website.
"Anyone who has watched this team under Pep knows how good they are – for me, they are the best in the world. The trophies they have won are clear for all to see, but they are also the best footballing side out there."
"To be joining this squad really is a dream for any footballer. I still have plenty of learning and developing to do, and I know under Pep’s management I can become a better player, which is really exciting for me," he added.
