However, the club failed to secure his services and he had to join Subotica from Sheriff Tiraspol in January on a six-month deal.

"They are great impressions, a really nice atmosphere greeted me at Maracana and I am happy to be here. I am excited to have the opportunity to play in front of Zvezda fans, I remember them well. It's been a long time of interest, and I'm aware of the expectations, so I'll do my best to make the fans proud," said the Ghana international during his unveiling, as quoted by the club's official website.
"I adapted to life in Serbia, although it wasn't easy when I came, changes and all, but these six months helped me to get used to football and the conditions. I'm also slowly learning the language, the words I know may not be suitable for the conference, but I'll improve my vocabulary, it will be better the next time we talk."

He joins compatriot and a key member of the Red Star team Osman Bukari.

Sporting Director of Red Star, Mitar Mrkela believes the midfielder will play a pivotal role in the upcoming season, with the Serbian giants involved in UEFA Champions League football.

"Edmund Addo is a player from Ghana who comes to our club from Spartak Subotica. We wanted him in previous years, we failed to bring him, after that he lost a little from our focus, but he played a good half-season in Spartak," said Mrkela.
