FootballBayern Munich’s Davies Reveals Reasons Behind His Failed Transfer to Barcelona
- Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies claims a move to Barcelona fell through
- The Canadian joined the German champions in the Bundesliga back in 2019
- The Bayern Munich left-back has been linked with a move to Real Madrid
Bayern Munich star, Alphonso Davies has revealed how Barcelona turned down the opportunity to sign him prior to his move to the Bundesliga.
Davies had made the sensational claim that a president of the club rejected a move for him because he is Canadian.
The Bayern Munich stalwart has been a key part of the Bundesliga team since joining from his native Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019.
His performances in claiming five league titles in Germany, and 2020's UEFA Champions League success, have led to transfer speculation.
However, on the Say Less podcast, Davies stated a proposed Barcelona deal fell down because of his nationality:
"Barcelona actually reached out but the president said they didn’t want me. They said they didn’t want me because I was Canadian. I’m not gonna lie that kind of crushed my feelings a little bit."
He said that it was reported in the media but could not confirm the president had actually made that claim.
Joan Laporta has been president of Barcelona since March 2021, taking over the role from interim leader, Carles Tusquets.
Davies to join Real Madrid?
Earlier this week, Davies' agent, Nick Huoseh said he had spoken to other clubs about his future.
Bayern are in ongoing contract talks with the Canadian, who is currently tied to the German champions until 2025. It is believed that reaching out to potential suitors might be part of a plan to get the Bundesliga club to act in the player's favour, as reported by 90mins.
He has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, although they would want to wait until next year when he will have just one year left on his current contract.

FootballChampions League winners, Manchester City are also thought to be rivalling Real Madrid in the race to sign Davies. He could be on his way out of Germany, as he struggles with loneliness in Munich.
"Life as a professional footballer is very cool, no doubt. You can chill and enjoy life, but, after training, there's nothing to do. For me, because I don't have a family and my girlfriend is not living with me, I'm by myself."
Madrid defender wants Davies
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that David Alaba wants Davids to join him at Real Madrid in the coming seasons.
The former Bayern Munich star is still close friends with the Canadian despite departing the club back in 2021.
Davies signed for Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019 and is building his reputation as a defender.
