Frank Lampard: Chelsea Youngster Cesare Casadei Names Only Midfielder Greater Than Blues Legend
- Frank Lampard is one of the greatest midfielders of all time and the best goalscorer in his position
- He is Chelsea’s all-time top scorer having played for the London club for 13 years
- Youngster Cesare Casadei rates him as the greatest of all time only behind an Italian midfielder
Chelsea youngster Cesare Casadei rates club legend Frank Lampard highly in the midfield GOAT debate, but only behind an Italian legend.
Lampard is one of the greatest midfielders ever and certainly the best goalscorer. He is Chelsea’s all-time top scorer, with 211 goals in all competitions during 13 years at the club.
In 2005, he was named the second-best player in the world during the FIFA Ballon d’Or award, only behind Brazilian legend and former Barcelona superstar Ronaldinho.
As reported by The Athletic, he was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame inaugural class of 2021 for his exploits in the league, having also played for West Ham and Manchester City.
Casadei rates Lampard highly
Chelsea have struggled to have a midfielder in his mould since he left the club. Some of those touted to be his successor have faded away. Mason Mount was close but could leave the club this summer.
Italian youngster Cesare Casadei whom the club signed from Inter Milan last summer has similar skills to Frank with his goal-scoring ability and is on the right track by idolising the 44-year-old.
As seen in a video recirculated on Twitter by IFTV, the youngster was asked to pick between Lampard and other midfield greats - Steven Gerrard, Juninho, Iniesta, Toni Kroos and Andrea Pirlo.
The 20-year-old picked the former Everton boss ahead of them all, including 2010 World Cup winner Iniesta, but not ahead of his compatriot Andrea Pirlo.
Casadei has helped Italy to the U20 World Cup final for the first time and are set to play Uruguay in the final on Sunday. He scored seven goals.

Why Chelsea sold De Bruyne
Casadei’s brilliance is not a guarantee he will make it at Chelsea, many have towed the path ahead of him, but were frustrated with loan moves and ultimately departed.
Sports Brief reported that Lampard revealed why Kevin De Bruyne was sold despite showing obvious talents from his youth.
