Hillsborough disaster
The Hillsborough disaster remains one of the most calamitous sports-related incidents in history. 97 Liverpool fans lost their lives during their FA Cup semifinal match against Nottingham Forrest. Images of the fan dining the shirt quickly went viral, with Liverpool fan accounts calling for action. The Met Police responded swiftly and sent an update through their Twitter handles that the fan had been taken into custody.
"#ARREST | We are aware of this and have worked proactively with officials at Wembley Stadium to identify the individual. He has been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and taken into custody."
A section of social media users online jumped to the defence of the fan, claiming that he was mocking Liverpool's inability to win the Premier League title in the 2018/2019 season despite clocking 97 points. It is the highest tally a runners up had had in the league. The eventual champions. Manchetser City, had 98 points.
