  • Real Madrid are the most valuable club in the world
  • Manchester United, valued at $6bn, are second on the list behind Real Madrid's $6.07bn
  • It's the first time two clubs have topped the $6 billion mark

Real Madrid have been named the most valuable football club in the world, according to a list released by business website Forbes on Wednesday.

Forbes have given the 14-time European champions a whopping $6.7 billion valuation.

Los Blancos have topped the latest rankings thanks to a 19% rise in their value.

This enormous growth is partly attributed to the club's $400 million 20-year contract with CVC and its $1.014 billion brand value, Forbes reported.

The La Liga giants are followed on the list by Manchester United, a Premier League powerhouse whose value surpassed $6 billion for the first time, due to a 30% increase.

The Red Devils are one of 12 English clubs who have made this year's rankings, with Liverpool and Manchester City among the top five. Barcelona have also upped their value by around 20%.

The team with the highest increase is Newcastle United. The Magpies saw their value soar by 51% to $794m. This enormous new amount is mostly attributable to their Saudi takeover, which was finalized last season.

Some clubs struggling financially

Some clubs have taken the heaviest financial hits throughout 2023. It is worth noting that Juventus have had a massive 12% decline in their worth, per a report by 90 Min.

The Old Lady recently agreed to a plea deal in their case involving deceptive accounting, misleading financial statements, and market manipulation; as a result, they have lost Serie A points.

Everton and Leicester City are two Premier League teams whose worth have decreased. This season, both teams were involved in a relegation battle at the bottom of the league standings, with the Foxes finishing in the bottom three following their final game of the season.

Kudus makes Forbes list

Sports Brief previously reported that Black Stars midfielder, Mohammed Kudus has been named in the 2023 Forbes Africa '30 Under 30' list.

The midfielder, who plies his trade in the Netherlands with Ajax Amsterdam, has been in phenomenal form for both club and country.

The World Cup star made the list for his immense contribution to society. He is seen as an inspiration for the people of his hometown of Nima in Ghana.
