FootballBayern Munich’s Performance Worse Under Thomas Tuchel: Lothar Matthäus
- Bayern Munich appointed Thomas Tuchel after sacking Julian Nagelsmann in March
- Bayern were on course for a historic treble
- The Bavarians have since been knocked out of every competition and are set to miss out on the Bundesliga
Bayern Munich sacked former coach Julian Nagelsmann in March and appointed former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, as they believed the potential to win the treble was in danger.
Fast forward two months and Bayern have been knocked out of the DFB Pokal, the Champions League, and look set to miss out on the Bundesliga title on the last day of the season.
Currently two points behind league leaders Borussia Dortmund, Bayern must beat FC Koln away and hope that Mainz 05 draw or beat BVB in the leader’s own backyard.
As reported by Sport Bild, former Bayern Munich and Germany international Lothar Matthäus believes the club are worse under Thomas Tuchel.
“Of course, many mistakes were made even before the change of coach, which ultimately led to this situation. But the team, which was still on triple course under Nagelsmann, plays worse under Tuchel,” explained the 62-year-old.
Matthäus went on to question Tuchel’s attitude during press conferences, and how he tells the media what is wrong instead of his own players:
“Tuchel increased the uncertainty because at his press conferences, which I find a bit strange, he always talks about how difficult everything is and what doesn’t work, instead of standing in front of the team.
“Add to that the unnecessary Müller discussion and too many changes of position.”
The upcoming summer and following campaign will be crucial for Tuchel and Bayern. The former Chelsea man has already hinted that he will be bringing in a variety of players to help rejuvenate the squad.
Matthäus wants Khan out
Chelsea owners admit they made mistake in sacking Thomas Tuchel after disastrous season
FootballThe former Bayern Munich midfielder wasn’t done with his criticism. He also blamed Bayern Munich’s CEO, Oliver Khan for the club’s poor form this season.
According to Matthäus, Oliver Khan has made several decisions which have affected the club this season.
Key among the decisions, he says, was the sacking of Nagelsmann and the appointment of Tuchel.
“Oliver Khan was coming after Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who made a great job as the CEO, and Oliver Khan was a newcomer in this business. Oliver is not the guy who is connected with his predecessors, he likes to go his way.
“Bayern will have to look for new leadership,” Matthäus told SuperSport in an exclusive interview in the Ghanaian capital, Accra.
Bayern have been knocked out of the Uefa Champions League, and DFB Pokal, and are two points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga.
Khan succeeded Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as Bayern Munich CEO in 2021 and has won 3 trophies.

FootballPSG to sign Bayern defender
According to Sports Brief, Bayern are set to lose one of their key defenders to French giants PSG.
Lucas Hernandez had been in contract talks with the German side before PSG made signing him a priority, with the two parties now seemingly in agreement.
The 27-year-old defender has only recently returned to training with the Bundesliga giants after an anterior cruciate ligament tear at the World Cup, but has quickly paused discussions over extending his stay with PSG reportedly interested in signing him.
