  • Emiliano Martinez has jokingly revealed that he will lure Lionel Messi into joining Aston Villa
  • It is widely anticipated the Argentine will part ways with Paris Saint-Germain this summer
  • His rapport with PSG supporters has deteriorated as fans continue to boo and whistle at him

Emiliano Martinez, with a playful tone, has pledged to utilise every means at his disposal to lure Lionel Messi to Aston Villa.

Martinez, who tasted World Cup glory alongside Messi in 2022, made his comments on the back of seeing his revered international teammate come in for criticism from PSG supporters.

The World Cup-winning goalkeeper went as far as to declare that he would willingly accept a reduction in his salary if it meant being able to cover the substantial wages of his Argentine compatriot.

"If Leo [Messi] is whistled [at PSG], I'd bring him to Aston Villa. I would do make [tea] for him, make him asados every weekend, ask people to make him little flags, and he'd have a good time. I'd cut my salary for Messi if I have to," Dibu said, via ESPN.

While Martinez's offer might appear tempting, Messi is not short on offers as he enters into the final months of his current contract with PSG.

He has been heavily linked with a sensational return to Barcelona this summer, talkSPORT reports.

There has also been speculation about a potential move to the Gulf nation of Saudi Arabia, where the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner could join forces with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr or oppose him at Al-Hilal.

Messi urged to join Barca

In related coverage, Sports Brief reported on Robert Lewandowski making a clarion call for Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona once his time in Ligue 1 ends.

With his current PSG deal expiring in the summer, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has been urged to come back to his 'spiritual home' of Camp Nou.

The Polish goal wizard has made it clear where he stands on the speculation raging at La Blaugrana about the potential fairy tale return of Messi.

Martinez recalls World Cup triumph

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Argentina goalkeeper, Martinez has discussed his crucial save and how he pulled it off in the 2022 World Cup final.

Dibu, who collected the Golden Glove award at the tournament's conclusion, was the barrier between France and a third FIFA World Cup crown.

The 30-year-old custodian denied Les Bleus' Randal Kolo Muani from point-blank range with virtually the last kick before the penalty shootout.
