Atletico Madrid forward Memphis Depay seems to have ironed out his differences with his Ghanaian father after sharing a photo of his dad on social media.
The Dutch-born Ghanaian also attached an emotional and inspiring message to the post, reflecting on the relationship with his father.
The former Barcelona player is reported to have dropped his surname due to the experiences he had growing up with out a father figure.
His father abandoned him while growing up in the Netherlands, living him to strive and become who he is today.
In a post on Instagram, Depay wrote: " I don’t wanna repeat what I’ve seen, I wanna do it differently. The generation before us made mistakes, so let’s not repeat them but, instead communicate. I can show you the way. Do you trust me?."
The ex-Manchester United star is enjoying a good campaign in Spain with Atletico Madrid after joining them in January from rivals Barcelona.
Despite exiting halfway through the campaign, Depay received a medal following Barcelona's La Liga triumph.
Depay shares moment with Torres
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Atletico Madrid forward, Memphis Depay has met club legend and former Spain striker, Fernando Torres.
The former Liverpool striker works with Atletico Madrid as a youth team coach, yet Depay, who joined the Spanish outfit in January, only met the World Cup winner this week.
Depay was also making a triumphant return from a minor knock which kept him out for weeks, scoring the final goal in Atleti's 5-2 win over Real Valladolid.
