  • Manchester City dispatched Real Madrid 4-0 to reach the Champions League final
  • The 14-time winners were totally dominated and outclassed at the Etihad Stadium
  • The result left Madrid veteran Luka Modric in tears during his post-match interview

Manchester City whitewashed Real Madrid 4-0 to take the aggregate scoreline to 5-1, sending the Spanish giants crashing out of the UEFA Champions League.

The first leg was balanced but the second leg was all the Citizens, with Los Blancos almost having no sniff of bringing anything out of the game.

A Bernardo Silva double, Eder Militao’s own-goal, and a dying-minutes goal by World Cup winner, Julian Alvarez put the 14-time winner to the sword in England.

Modric inconsolable after Madrid'sloss

Veteran midfielder and five-time Champions League winner, Luka Modric was in tears as he granted an interview to Spanish outlet, El Chiringuito TV, as spotted by Madrid Universal.

The Croatian had a performance to forget and was hooked off in the second half, having completed only 76% of his 38 attempted passes.

He struggled for spaces to exploit in the midfield, as City’s positioning limited the Ballon d’Or winner and his partners, Toni Kroos and Fede Valverde.

Modric comments on Ancelotti’s future

Due to the team's inconsistencies, Carlo Ancelotti has been under pressure and at risk of losing his job throughout this season.

However, Modric came to the defence of the Italian tactician amidst calls for his sacking.

“Carlo Ancelotti deserves to stay as Real Madrid coach also next season,” he said, as quoted by Sportskeeda.

According to AP News, despite the national team job links, the 63-year-old has expressed the desire to honour his Real Madrid contract, which expires in 2024.

City fans hit Poznan celebration

It was not Madrid’s night, as they suffered all kinds of humiliation in Manchester on a European night, as Sports Brief reported.

City fans hit the Poznan celebration after Militao’s grave error, turning their backs to the game to suggest it was 'nothing to watch'.

Unusually, the Etihad Stadium was packed and loud from beginning to end, something Pep Guardiola had constantly asked fans for.
