FootballBarcelona Stars Jordi Alba and Ferran Torres Caught Making Fun of Espanyol’s Oscar Gil
- Barcelona stars Ferran Torres and Jordi Alba have been criticised for their sledging of Espanyol defender Oscar Gil
- The Barcelona derby ended 4-2 with Barca securing the La Liga title and Espanyol edging even closer to relegation
- Gil struggled to keep up with his opposite number Alejandro Balde who caused him constant issues while on the pitch
The recent Espanyol-Barcelona incident continues to sink into murky waters.
The invasion of the field by furious fans, which prevented Xavi Hernández’s men from celebrating on the pitch and sparked an investigation by both La Liga and police authorities, has already generated deep debate between those who strongly condemn the actions of the Espanyol ultras and those who justify their actions as being provoked.
Some images of the Barcelona bench have added to the controversy over the last couple of days.
Some Barcelona players were caught laughing at the complicated situation of their cross-city neighbours, who are fully immersed in the relegation battle, while also making comments at the opposition's expense.
Footage from Marca TV has shown Jordi Alba and Ferran Torres laughing at Espanyol's Oscar Gil and making fun of him from the bench.
Among the sledging the Barcelona duo were said to have aimed at him include telling Gil that he and his team are 'done', blasting him for having an inferiority complex, telling him where to move on the pitch, and asking how the year had gone for his team.
Marcos Alonso and Eric García also laughed along with their teammates on the bench, but did not appear to have insults of their own to add.
The conduct of the Barcelona players at the expense of their city rivals has not gone down well with Espanyol supporters - and fans at large - with the incident fuelling criticism of La Blaugrana online.
