  • Real Madrid scooped home their first Copa del Rey title in nine years after beating Osasuna in the 2023 final
  • A brace from Rodrygo was more than enough as Los Blancos reached 20 titles in the competition
  • Madrid remains the second most successful club in the Copa del Rey, only behind Barcelona, who boast a staggering 31 trophies

Real Madrid clinched their first Copa del Rey title in almost a decade against Osasuna on Saturday evening, thanks to a Rodrygo double.

The Brazilian struck twice to help Los Blancos win their first Kings Cup since 2014 and 20th in total after edging the Pamplona-based outfit 2-1 at the Estadio de La Cartuja.

Rodrygo drew first blood for Carlo Ancelotti's charges after just 109 seconds following a lovely dribble from fellow Brazilian Vinicius Junior, who bamboozled his way through a tree of Osasuna legs before setting him up on a plate, MARCA reports.

Lucas Torro will draw Osasuna level in the 58th minute, but Rodrygo will have the final say when he netted the match-winner with 20 minutes left on the clock as Real Madrid held on to win the Copa del Rey final.

According to BBC, Real Madrid will now turn their attention to the Champions League when they play host to Manchester City on Tuesday, May 9, at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their semifinal clashes.

How did Barcelona react?

Following the end of the game, Real Madrid's El Clasico nemesis put away their age-old rivalry to congratulate the Spanish capital club on their most recent feat.

The Catalan giants took to the micro-blogging App, Twitter, to send a classy message to Los Blancos, which read: "Congrats to Real Madrid, the Copa del Rey Champions!"

Rodrygo matches Messi's record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Rodrygo continues to etch his name in the annals of Real Madrid and Spanish football history with his latest goal-scoring heroics in the final of the Copa del Rey.

The Brazilian forward scored on either side of half-time to help Los Blancos win their first Spanish Cup title since 2014 at the expense of Osasuna on Saturday evening.

He became the first player since Lionel Messi to score multiple goals in the Copa del Rey final with his brace against Osasuna
