Christensen, who joined Barcelona last summer on a free transfer after running down his contract with Chelsea, has been missing in action since picking up an injury during the international break in March.

His goal set the tone for Xavi Hernandez's charges, who raced to a three-nil lead inside the first 45 minutes as they look to restore their 11-point lead at the summit of the league table.

Xavi berates players after defeat

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandes has blasted his players for their lack of intensity following their 2-1 loss to Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday night, Sports Brief reported.

Robert Lewandowski’s 83rd-minute strike was not good enough to rescue a point for the Catalan giants, who could not take advantage of Real Madrid’s slip-up on Tuesday.

Xavi insisted his Barcelona players had not competed at the required level and said they deserved to lose to Rayo Vallecano.

Dembele makes injury return

Earlier, Sports Brief that Barcelona has been handed a significant boost in pursuing their first La Liga title in three years following the return to fitness of crucial winger Ousmane Dembele.

Dembele had been one of the club’s standout players this season before he suffered a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for three months.

The 25-year-old forward’s absence proved costly for Barcelona as the Catalans were knocked out of the Europa League and Copa del Rey while injured. Dembele has been included in Barcelona’s squad for the first time since January as they prepare to take on Real Betis on Saturday, April 29.
