  • Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois mocked Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge
  • He has always had a frosty relationship with the fanbase of his former employers
  • Courtois played an integral role as Madrid heaped more misery on a dismal Blues

Thibaut Courtois responded to Chelsea fans in kind, as he dazzled in Real Madrid's 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge on April 18.

The goalkeeper had an impressive game despite being subjected to a hostile reception at his former home ground.

The lanky Belgian has never been forgiven for ditching the club to move to the Spanish capital and Blues fans made that clear with loud jeers every time Courtois was on the ball.

Nonetheless, that did not stop him from pulling off brilliant saves as Carlo Ancelotti's side added a further two goals in the tie to win 4-0 on aggregate.

Chelsea offered an improved performance but as has been the case this season, they were particularly wasteful in the final third.

N'Golo Kante had the opportunity to put his side ahead very early in the game but fluffed his efforts.

Courtois was called into action just before the break as he denied Marc Cucurella from close range.

Reece James fizzled a cross that evaded everyone to find his opposite number on the far post. However, the Spanish full-back failed to score as the Real Madrid keeper thwarted his effort with an impressive block.

The custodian then turned to the Chelsea supporters behind him and kissed the Real Madrid badge, further provoking them.

He went on to keep a clean sheet as Real Madrid sealed yet another semi-final berth.

The record Champions League winners will likely face Manchester City in the last four, with Pep Guardiola's side holding a 3-0 advantage over Bayern Munich.

Drogba slams Chelsea owners

Sports Brief also reported on Didier Drogba's scathing attack on Chelsea and its ownership, as the Blues continue to endure a miserable season including being knocked out of the UCL.

The exit from the competition saw the club's last shot at silverware and redemption this season go out the window, as they currently languish in 11th position on the Premier League log.

Drogba has now waded into the discussion, seemingly taking issue with the Todd Boehly-owned club and the dwindling of Chelsea's fortunes under the new management structure.
