  • Manchester United were dumped out of the UEFA Europa League at the hands of Sevilla
  • The Red Devils ceded a 2-0 lead in the first leg before getting battered 3-0 in Seville
  • United have themselves to blame after giving away four goals in the encounter

Manchester United's European adventure came to an end on Thursday after their 3-0 (5-2 aggregate) loss to Spanish opposition Sevilla.

The Red Devils have faced and subdued three Spanish teams - Real Sociedad, Barcelona and Real Betis but fell to their usual nemesis, who have dumped them out of Europe twice in the last seven years.

Captain Harry Maguire and goalkeeper David De Gea were responsible for two goals after miscommunication for the first and a mistimed clearance from the goalkeeper later.

It limited the chances of lifting another silverware for the team, who have won the Carabao Cup, ending their six-year trophy drought and faces Brighton in the FA Cup later today with a thin squad due to injuries and suspension, as reported by 90min.

Ten Hag blasts United players

The Dutch tactician was visibly annoyed on the touchline as Maguire and De Gea made their errors but hid it inside until the game was over, and he laid into the players.

Speaking ahead of Brighton's game, as quoted by Sun UK, the former Ajax boss claimed his team's performance was unprofessional, and he was angry.

“After Sevilla, I was really mad. For me, it was so unacceptable because if you play a quarter-final in the Europa League you give everything and we didn’t. You can make a mistake but you have to carry on,” he said.
“I made the players aware of what my analysis was, what my feeling about the game was and what the effects of the game were. They didn’t match the standards of who I manage, a team in professional football.”

Ten Hag shows classy gesture

The 53-year-old may have been harsh on his players in the aftermath of the Europa League elimination, but he showed a classy side towards a young United fan.

As Sports Brief reported, Ten Hag stopped while driving out of United's training facilities at Carrington to have some words and pictures with the young fan who gave him a cardboard crown.
