Chelsea legend, Joe Cole has called on the club to sell up to 10 current squad members following their Champions League elimination.

The Blues have endured a disastrous run this season, with the club currently languishing in 11th place in the Premier League with just 39 points after 31 rounds of fixtures.

The Champions League represented the club's only realistic chance to win a trophy this term, having already reached the quarter-finals.

However, the Blues, who have already been through three managers this season, were unable to go beyond the last eight, with Real Madrid getting the better of them.

The Sun reports the La Liga giants beat the 2021 UCL champions 4-0 on goal aggregate, with the second leg played on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge ending in a 2-0 defeat.

The loss extinguished Chelsea's slim hopes of ending the campaign with any silverware.

Cole wants 10 stars sold

Cole, who played for Chelsea between 2003 and 2010, has now called on the club to embark on a massive summer clearout.

The ex-England international wants as many as 10 players sold, contending it is the only way the club can reclaim lost glory.

"It helped Antonio Conte’s team. Chelsea finished 10th and then won the league after Conte came in," Cole told BT Sport, when asked if the absence of European football could help the club win the EPL next season.
"I’m not saying I think Chelsea are going to win the league next season - there’s more than enough strong teams above them - but without a doubt, it will help the team."

However, the 41-year-old buttressed his comments by saying this would only help if at least 10 players were sold off.

"I think at least 10 players need to be trimmed from the squad."

Cucurella slammed for lewd training

One of the Chelsea stars many expect to see on the chopping block is a former Barcelona player, whose has struggled this season and courted the ire of fans.

As reported previously by Sports Brief, Blues fans slammed Marc Cucurella for his lewd techniques at the Athletes Edge personal training centre, owned by James Ralph.

The defender was videoed tying a weight around his waist and moving it back and forth with his hips like a pendulum, which left fans rather unimpressed.
