  • Chelsea fans have blasted Marc Cucurella for poor defensive positioning

Marc Cucurella had a forgettable night on Tuesday when Chelsea lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Spaniard's night was summed up by a lapse in concentration that led to Los Blancos' opening goal in their 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

In the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium a week ago, the 24-year-old missed Rodrygo's run as the young forward broke away on goal in the second half.

That resulted in Ben Chilwell receiving a red card after he dragged the Brazilian attacker down.

Seven days later, in the Champions League once again, Cucurella's defensive shortcomings were once again on display when, after containing Eder Militao, he left Rodrygo wide open on the right flank.

That instant is depicted in the video below.

After some shoddy home defense, Rodrygo quickly increased the score to 3-0 overall in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Social media reacts to Cucurella

@macdot__paul reacted:

"It’s so funny cause when I saw him charging I thought there was no one behind him cause of the camera angle. When militao played that pass I was shocked rodrygo was there. I just knew that was the goal right there lol"

"Clearly pressing the wrong man. But Chalpbah is also about 4 metres out from where he should be on the field"

Cucurella improving ball control skills

According to a video on TikTok by Pro Direct Soccer and re-shared by the defender on Instagram, he undertook ball control practice.

This involves the football being launched at him from a long distance, with Cucurella having to control it under difficult conditions.

The defender also showed his funny side by celebrating wildly after one control and controlling with his backside to peals of laughter from the defender and his trainer.

Cucurella slammed for lewd training

The former Barcelona player may be making efforts to improve himself but one of his techniques was not well-received by the Blues faithful.

As reported by Sports Brief, fans slammed Cucurella for lewd techniques at the personal training centre of Athletes Edge, owned by James Ralph.

The defender was videoed tying a weight around his waist and moving it like back and forth with his hips, which left fans rather unimpressed.
