A section of fans have blamed Erik ten Hag after Manchester United surrendered a 2-0 advantage to draw 2-2 against Sevilla in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash at Old Trafford.

United looked pretty much in control of the tie after they raced to a 2-0 lead in the early exchanges of the encounter.

A brace from Marcel Sabitzer in the 14th and 21st minute of the clash put the Red Devils in a pole position to see off the La Liga giants at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag blamed for United's capitulation

However, before then, fans spared some time to take stock of the happenings at Old Trafford that had seen United move from having one foot in the semis to planning for their survival ahead of the return leg.

A section of fans portioned the blame on Ten Hag for United's capitulation, as they took issue with his questionable substitutions in the second half.

@utdmtion posted:

"Ten Hag needs to learn that taking off Bruno was a mistake the moment he came off the team crumbled."

@Utd_Analytics observed:

"I'm sorry but Ten Hag has played a huge role in Sevilla's resurgence. Poor in-game management in my opinion. Read it wrong."

@terryflewers added:

"And Man United collapse and throw away the lead! Ten Hag's subs killed this game!"

A fourth continued:

"Erik Ten Hag just take the blame for this. Zero impact from the subs."

While another concluded:

"This is on Ten Hag."

Ten Hag's kind gesture

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Ten Hag has deepened his connection to the Red Devils faithful and recently made the day of a young fan while driving away from the club's training facility at Carrington.

According to a video published on Twitter, the boss met a young fan who presented him with a crown made from cardboard with the inscription King Erik Ten Hag.

The boy asked the former FC Twente boss to guess his favourite player, and he correctly guessed Alejandro Garnacho, possibly taking a hint from the kid's scarf.
