Hugo Broos has announced his preliminary South African squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe next month.

South Africa will face the Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on June 7, then host Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium four days later.

Bafana Bafana will need to bounce back to winning ways after drawing against both Andorra and Algeria during the March international break.

The Belgian tactician has recalled Lyle Foster to his team after the Burnley striker declined an invitation to the team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

According to a report by iDiskiTimes, former Kaizer Chiefs defender, Siyabonga Ngezana, is also back in the squad after winning the Romanian league title with FCSB.

Goalkeepers: Ronwen Willams, Bruce Bvuma, Veli Mothwa, Ricardo Goss.

Defenders: Sydney Mobbie, Thabiso Monyane, Thapelo Morena, Innocent Maela, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Aubrey Modiba, Given Msimango, Mothobi Mvala, Tapelo Xoki, Khuliso Mudau, Terrence Mashego, Thabo Maloisane, Siyabonga Ngezana, Grant Kekana.

Midfielders: Teboho Mokoena, Grant Margeman, Jayden Adams, Bathusi Aubaas, Sphephelo Sithole.

Forwards: Themba Zwane, Devin Titus, Oswin Appollis, Patrick Maswanganyi, Mlondi Mbanjwa, Iqraam Rayners, Tshepang Moremi, Elias Mokwana, Lyle Foster, Evidence Makgopa, Percy Tau, Relebohile Mofokeng, Mihlali Mayambela.

South Africa is currently second in Group C with three points, one point ahead of Nigeria and one behind leaders, Rwanda. Their next two games are on June 7 and June 11 respectively.

Broos warns Super Eagles ahead of qualifiers

Sports Brief previously reported on Broos sending a warning to Nigeria ahead of their WC qualifiers game.

The two African giants will face off against each other on June 7, with one point separating them at present.

Broos believes his side’s recent friendlies against Andorra and Algeria prove his side is ready for a challenge.
