Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu is set to leave Southampton in the summer transfer window to join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

The 24-year-old is reported to be in talks with the Spanish giants with the St Mary's outfit battling for survival in the English Premier League.

Salisu has struggled for game time since Ruben Selles was appointed manager of the Saints.

Injuries have also affected his game time as he is yet to recover from a knock that kept him out of the games against Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

According to Elgoldigital, the player's agent is offering the defender to Atletico Madrid, who are long-time admirers of the centre-back.

Salisu is believed to be interested in a return to Spain with UEFA Champions League football guaranteed at Atletico Madrid.

Before picking the knock, Salisu made 22 Premier League appearances for the St Mary's outfit.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also interested in the services of the Black Stars defender.

Salisu moved to England in the summer of 2020 after leaving La Liga side Real Valladolid.
