Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has bizarrely thanked Graham Potter after the Seagulls piled more pressure on Chelsea on Saturday, April 15, at Stamford Bridge.

Brighton, who have enjoyed an impressive run of form, condemned the Blues to yet another defeat, with goals from Danny Welbeck and Julio Enciso sealing a memorable win for them away from home.

According to BBC, Conor Gallagher got Chelsea off to a flying start when he opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Welbeck restored parity for the visitors moments before the break.

Enciso's second-half goal earned Brighton a huge result at the west London club, with the result putting them in a pole position to secure European football.

Potter's role in Chelsea defeat

De Zerbi contends Potter played a role in Brighton's momentous win over the struggling Chelsea.

According to De Zerbi, he inherited a 'strong and great team' from Potter, who dumped Brighton for Chelsea back in September.

"I have to say thanks to Graham Potter because I found a very great and strong team and I am now trying to give my idea," Metro UK quoted the Italian saying shortly after his side's win.
"It’s an amazing day for us. The result, the performance," he added.

De Zerbi succeeded Potter at Brighton last September after the latter was poached by Chelsea to replace Thomas Tuchel.

However, Potter could barely last a season at Stamford Bridge as he was recently sacked after a disastrous run of form.

Kovacic blames teammates for Potter sacking

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has claimed his teammates should take responsibility for Graham Potter's sacking.

Potter was shown the door at Stamford Bridge last Sunday after just seven months in charge of the Blues.

The former Brighton boss had overseen a disastrous campaign at the west London club that has left them in danger of missing out on Champions League football.
