  • Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has scored 21 league goals this term for Napoli and he is topping the goalscoring charts
  • The Napoli man has now made it known that his target is to become the next African best footballer of the year
  • Years back, the likes of Mikel Obi, Jay-Jay Okocha and Vincent Enyeama came close to winning the CAF award

Following his impressive performances this term, Victor Osimhen has finally disclosed that his objective in his professional football career is to win the African Footballer of the Year award.

With how things are going in the Italian Serie A this season, Osimhen is likely to end up as the highest goal scorer which means he would become the first Nigerian to achieve that success.

The Super Eagles strongman has been making the headlines this season at Napoli for positive reasons and has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

According to the latest report on Complete Sports, Osimhen is looking to dethrone Sadio Mane who is the current holder of the prestigious African award.

Osimhen's statement about landing award

“I am not going to lie. It would be my dream to be African Footballer of the Year. I was at the ceremony in 2015, when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won the award. As an African you dream of this prize and maybe I can win.''

The last Nigerian player who won the African Footballer of the year award was Kanu Nwankwo in 1999.

Bayern Munich want Osimhen

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Bayern Munich joined the race to sign Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen and are said to be willing to pay Napoli the €100 million asking fee.

This latest piece of transfer news means the Bavarians could hijack the signature of the Super Eagles striker from the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Since the departure of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona, Bayern have been struggling in front of goals and are yet to find a good replacement for the veteran striker.
