Nigerian international, Samuel Chukwueze has equalled Lionel Messi's record at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, after scoring a brace for Villarreal in their surprise win over Real Madrid.

On April 9, the Spanish champions were playing with home pitch advantage and fans expected another emphatic win over their visitors, but the opposite occurred.

It was Chukwueze who single-handedly destroyed Los Blancos in the Spanish league encounter, with the Nigerian making headlines ever since his brace.

The Super Eagles winger is also now the second Villarreal player in history to score a brace at Los Blancos' home ground, with Diego Forlan the first.

The Messi record Chukwueze equalled

According to the report by Complete Sports, Chukwueze became the first player to complete seven dribbles in a La Liga game against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium since Messi in April 2017.

Sports Brief spoke with Super Eagles coordinator, Pascal Patrick, for his comments on the performance of the Nigerian.

The Bauchi State FA Chairman expressed happiness at Chukwueze's form.

"We all watched the match and I have also spoken with Samuel, commending him for his brilliant game and also urging him to keep the star shining for his team and also when we call him to play for the national team."

Chukwueze keen on Villarreal stay

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Chukwueze discussing the speculation linking him with a move to the EPL, with the Nigerian international claiming he is happy to remain in Spain for now.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a major move to Arsenal since last year, with the Gunners' hierarchy reportedly preparing to make Villarreal an offer in the summer for his services.

There are also reports circulating that Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta wants Chukwueze at the Emirates Stadium as a form of competition for top England international, Bukayo Saka.
