Barcelona Set to Face Sanctions From Spanish Authorities in the Aftermath of El Clasico Defeat

Barcelona could lose more than just a Copa del Rey final ticket following their 4-0 defeat to arch-rivals, Real Madrid due to the unruly behaviour of some of their supporters.

The crunch El Clasico clash at Camp Nou had to be stopped twice by referee, Juan Martinez Munuera after Barcelona supporters threw objects onto the pitch.

According to Football Espana, the centre referee has now indicated both incidents in his match report which he submitted to the Spanish authorities, with action now set to be taken.

Several lighters were thrown by the supporters behind the Real Madrid goal in the 74th minute of the match but no player was hit.

Six minutes later, however, a similar incident occurred, this time involving two bottles, a coin, and three lighters. Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois was hit by one of them.

Xavi refuse to blame injuries

Meanwhile, Xavi has refused to use the absences of some key Barcelona players in their Copa del Rey defeat to Real Madrid as an excuse for the embarrassing 4-0 loss, Daily Post reports.

Instead, the Spaniard blamed La Blaugrana's inability to stop Los Blancos on the counterattack as the reason for their defeat and not because they were missing some key stars.

Barcelona were without four senior players including Ousmane Dembele, Frenkie De Jong, Pedro, and Andreas Christensen in the reverse fixture against their rivals at Camp Nou.
