He would later join Chelsea in 2001, before leaving in 2004, bringing to a halt his illustrious Premier League stay.

But looking back, the 48-year-old has sensationally admitted he regrets the Chelsea move, revealing he wish he had signed for Man United instead.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Paddy Power Pitch Invader magazine, Petit disclosed he had several offers, with former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson twice calling him over his services.

"Well, Alex Ferguson called me twice, Arsene Wenger came to see me, as did Claudio Ranieri, who I invited into my home and ended up signing for Chelsea," he said.
"I should have listened to the voice in my head telling me to go to Manchester United. It would have been a dream playing alongside those players," he conceded.
