Frank Lampard has hinted he could be open to becoming Chelsea's permanent boss at the end of the season.

Lampard's appointment saw him make a sensational return to Stamford Bridge just two years after he was shown the door at the club and succeeded by Thomas Tuchel.

With a top-four finish almost out of sight, the publication claims Lampard's immediate assignment will be steadying the ship for the remainder of the campaign before club owner Todd Boehly decides on what direction he would like the club to take.

Lampard open for permanent role

While Lampard is fully aware of his terms of service, the former Chelsea captain has hinted he would be open to becoming the club's permanent manager at the end of the season.

"I am not getting ahead of myself in my role," Lampard admitted via The Independent.
"I want to do the best I can to impact the club in this period and we will see what happens afterwards," he added.

Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann have been touted as the frontrunners for the Stamford Bridge job.

Both managers are currently out of work, with Nagelsmann sacked recently at Bayern Munich.

Lampard returns with 3 ex-Chelsea coaches

Sports Brief earlier reported that Frank Lampard will return to Stamford Bridge with three former Chelsea coaches following his reappointment as Blues boss.

The legendary midfielder has been named Chelsea's interim manager, replacing Graham Potter, who was sacked last Sunday.

Ashley Cole, Joe Edwards and Chris Jones, who were part of his coaching staff at Everton, have also returned to the West London club.
