The 2023/24 season is entering its final stages, and the battle for the African Golden Boot in Europe's top five leagues is heating up.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been rejuvenated this season and has outscored African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen.

We've also witnessed praiseworthy performances from Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea after a difficult start in his first season in English football.

The Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, and the Bundesliga know their champions, while the Premier League will have to wait until the final day of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen are the story of the season following their Bundesliga triumph - the first in their history - ending Bayern Munich's 11-year stranglehold on the league.

PSG defended their Ligue 1 crown in Kylian Mbappe's final season at the club. Real Madrid and Inter Milan have also been crowned champions in Spain and Italy.

African players have made their mark in these teams, and here are the leading scorers this season.

African top scorers in Europe

5. Victor Osimhen, Nicolas Jackson, Mohammed Kudus - 17 goals

Osimhen, the reining African Footballer of the Year, is having an underwhelming season. Last campaign, he bagged 31 goals in all competitions, including 26 in Serie A. This term, however, he has 17 across all competitions and will end the season trophyless.

Despite all the intense scrutiny, Jackson is having a decent first season at Chelsea. Mohamed Salah is the only African player in the Premier League with more league goals than him. The Senegal striker has 14 league goals and 17 in all competitions.

Kudus is also enjoying a decent first campaign in English football. The West Ham United forward has scored seven league goals and 17 in all competitions.

4. Victor Boniface - 20 goals

Boniface would've been higher on this list if not for an injury that kept him out for four months. His 13 goals in 22 Bundesliga games helped Bayer Leverkusen win their first league title. The 23-year-old has registered 20 goals and 10 assists this season in 32 appearances. Moreover, the Nigerian international is playing in his first season in Germany.

3. Mohamed Salah - 25 goals

The Egyptian continues to produce impressive numbers at Liverpool consistently. The 31-year-old is in his seventh season at Liverpool and hasn't lost a step. His form has dipped in 2024, but his numbers are decent. He has 18 Premier League goals and 10 assists in 31 games, contributing to 25 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions this season.

2. Serhou Guirassy - 28 goals

Guirassy is enjoying the best season of his club career. The Guinean striker has bagged 26 Bundesliga goals for VfB Stuttgart this season, and only Bayern Munich's Harry Kane has scored more league goals. The 28-year-old has fired Stuttgart to the top four and helped them secure Champions League football.

Last season, he scored 14 goals in all competitions, but he has surpassed that tally this season. The former Stade Rennais star has 28 goals in all competitions.

1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 29 goals

At 34, Aubameyang is still scoring goals for fun. The Olympique Marseille star has 29 goals in all competitions in 49 appearances. The Gabonese star has 16 goals in Ligue 1, making him the leading African scorer in the league. Only three players have scored more goals in Ligue 1.

The former Arsenal star became Europa League's all-time top scorer this season despite his side being eliminated in the semi-final by Atalanta.

Aubameyang reduced to tears

Sports Brief also previously reported on Aubameyang getting emotional following Marseille's exit from the Europa League.

The French giants lost 3-0 in the second leg after an incredible run, with the Gabonese star shedding tears after the match.
