FootballUncle of Cremonese Forward Afena Gyan Demands Explanation for Black Stars Snub
- Felix Afena-Gyan declined an invite for the AFCON U23 qualifiers against Algeria
- The player's uncle has claimed the Cremonese striker has been unfairly treated
- The former AS Roma player has not been part of the national team since last June
Felix Afena-Gyan's uncle, Abrefa Gyan wants the Ghana Football Association to explain why the US Cremonese forward was snubbed for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Afena-Gyan led the Black Stars' attack in the play-off against Nigeria in March last year.
However, the former AS Roma striker was dropped for the tournament in the Middle East despite playing an essential role in the qualifiers.
Afena-Gyan has not been recalled to the team recently but did earn an invite to the U23 team, the Black Meteors, which he declined.

“Even if you wouldn’t give him an invite, you should go and explain things to him to psyche him up based on whatever you promised him to convince him. Assuring him of future call-ups, for example," the player’s uncle told Kumasi-based Pure FM, as quoted by Pulse.
“Meeting his parents and agent to speak with him would be more beneficial than simply selecting your players and ignoring him, giving the impression that he can choose to play or not, and you don’t care,” he added.
Afena-Gyan has struggled for game time since joining Cremonese last summer.
