The Citizen revealed that matters were already tense before the match. United fan, Don dos Santos claimed that mistrust was already afoot on Friday.

He said to the newspaper that the Team of Choice's fans blocked anyone connected to Chiefs from accessing the venue, adding:

"We were keeping an eye on everything that was happening in the venue. We checked everyone going in and out.”

Another unnamed source suspected espionage, alleging:

"We are not sure what they wanted to do but we suspect they were trying to spy on our team because we are playing Chiefs. They even had a camera with them. But luckily, they were caught before they could do anything.”
