Paris Saint-Germain has been urged to build their team around Kylian Mbappe and let go of Lionel Messi if they want to be successful in the Champions League.

Ex-PSG player, Eric Rabesandratana gave the Ligue 1 champions this advice following the club’s latest setback in Europe where they were eliminated in the last-16 for the second consecutive season.

According to PSG Talk, Rabesandratana claims Messi is not too determined to excel with PSG the same way he did with Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

“We do not feel great determination. We saw it with Argentina during the World Cup. Even though the whole team was playing for him, he was determined.
“We expect a lot more from Lionel Messi, apart from his statistics. An extension? QSI wants to extend it. But I think he is not part of the PSG project. We need more determined players.”

PSG are keen on extending Messi’s contract although it is reported the Argentine wants to return to Barcelona when his current deal expires.

Barcelona handed major blow in Messi reunion

Meanwhile, Barcelona's hopes of reuniting with Lionel Messi have been handed a major blow after Qatari club Al-Hilal announced a €220 million annual offer for the PSG superstar, Fansided reports.

Al-Hilal intends to entice the Argentine away from Paris with a contract similar to Cristiano Ronaldo's, ideally making the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner the highest-paid footballer in the country.

Barcelona are strongly considering the possibility of bringing Messi back to Camp Nou when his current PSG contract expires this summer.

Messi seriously considering Barcelona Return

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Lionel Messi’s future in Paris Saint-Germain is still uncertain with less than three months to the end of his current deal with the Ligue 1 champions.

The 35-year-old forward penned a two-year deal when he joined PSG in 2021 and although the club wants to renew his contract, Messi seems like he is thinking in another direction.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is dreaming of returning to Barcelona despite earlier having a verbal agreement with PSG to extend his deal with the club.
