Mabo Ismaila: President Buhari Mourns Death of the Nigerian Coach

• Former Super Falcons coach Ismaila Mabo passed away on Monday, 13 March, after long battle against illness
• Mabo who died at the age of 80 has been buried in Jos, Plateau State with football lovers mourning him
• President Buhari has however commiserated with the family of the deceased in a statement released by his media aide

President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family, friends and associates of late Nigerian coach Ismaila Mabo who died on Monday morning, 13 March.

Nigerian football fraternities wake up on Monday morning to hear the news about the demise of the former Super Falcons gaffer who took the team to the World Cup.

Mabo was said to have engaged in serious battle against sickness for weeks before he passed on at the age of 80 leaving behind children and grandchildren.

Many football chiefs however gathered in Jos, Plateau State later on Monday evening to bury the late grassroots soccer tactician.

According to the report on Punch, Buhari prayed that the soul of the departed one finds favour infront of his Creator.

Statement from the Presidency

“Mabo was also a legendary footballer in the domestic league, making his mark as a player and captain of Mighty Jets of Jos and also representing the country as a formidable central defender with the Green Eagles.

“As the head coach of the Nigeria women’s national team at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics, the President believes that Mabo’s legacy will live on in the players and the coaches that came in contact with him during his career, as well as the young athletes that will draw inspiration from his managerial abilities in the years to come.

Vincent Enyeama named greatest goalie

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigerian legend Vincent Enyeama was named as the greatest African goalkeeper of all-time by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

There is no doubt about the fact that Enyeama was an excellent goalkeeper during his active playing days considering his achievement in the national team, Super Eagles.

Enyeama was in goal for Nigeria in their campaign at the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa which they won.
