- The veteran striker successfully managed to end the six-year dominance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi as he won LaLiga’s top scorer award in 2016
Luis Suarez has shed light on the role Lionel Messi and Neymar Junior played in his landmark 2015-16 season, winning the European Golden Boot award ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Affectionately called El Pistolero, Suarez won the individual prize ahead of the then Real Madrid goal scoring machine in addition to collective honours of La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup to crown a successful season.
The Uruguayan forward racked up a staggering 40 goals, five more than Ronaldo, on route to winning the Pichichi prize in Spain and eventually the European Golden Boot.
His achievement of finishing as Europe's top marksman, his second overall, was largely aided by the supporting cast of Messi and Neymar.

“When I was competing with Cristiano for the golden boot, Messi and Neymar helped me win," Suarez recounted via Managing Barca.
He became the first player since 2009 other than Leo Messi and Ronaldo to win both the Pichichi and the Golden Shoe in a season with 14 of his goals coming in his last five matches, per Sky Sports.
"They made me take penalty kicks and passed me the balls to score. I will always be grateful for that.”
Since then, Suarez has gone on to play for Atletico Madrid and is currently on the books of Brazilian outfit Gremio as he brings the curtains down on what has been a successful career.

FootballSuarez makes bold claim about Neymar
Neymar is regarded as one of the most talented footballers of his generation, but the Paris Saint-Germain forward is yet to back up that claim with a Ballon d’Or win.

According to Football Espana, Luis Suarez, who played alongside Neymar at Barcelona, has blamed the Brazilian’s decision to leave the Catalan giants as the reason why he is yet to win the award.
