Nigeria's Flying Eagles defender Abel Ogwuche has expressed joy after he and his teammates defeated Uganda in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2023 Under-20 AFCON in Egypt.

There was serious tension for coach Ladan Bosso going into the encounter considering how he was mandated by the Nigerian Football Federation to reach the final of the competition.

Uganda on the other hand were impressive in the tournament before their journey came to an end.

The good thing about the Flying Eagles beating Uganda is that Bosso and his wards have qualified for the 2022 FIFA Under-20 World Cup and that has thrilled Ogwuche according to the report on Complete Sports.

Statement made by Abel Ogwuche

“It is a great feeling to win and it was our dream from the start of the tournament to get the World Cup ticket and down we’re looking forward to taking the trophy home.''

Sports Brief spoke with NFF director of media Ademola Olajire who explained that the football body is proud of the Flying Eagles urging them to lift the title.

What Olajire said

''They have met our target which is to qualify for the World Cup and we are proud of them even as we urge them to go all the final reaching the final and bring the title home.''

Flying Eagles beat Uganda

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigerian football fraternities were on Thursday evening, 2 March, thrown into wide jubilation after the Flying Eagles defeated Uganda 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Under 20 AFCON.

Going into this encounter, these two teams were aware of the importance of recording a win, but it was the Flying Eagles who got the victory even though it was a lucky one.

They have now qualified for the semi-final of the competition and also picked the ticket for the 2023 FIFA Under 20 World Cup which is massive.
