The defeat intensified calls by a section of fans to have Potter sacked as the club manager, barely six months since he took charge of the club.

Why are Chelsea sticking with Potter

The Telegraph claims that there are several reasons why Chelsea owners have resolved to afford Potter more time despite growing pressure to have him fired.

1. Injuries to key players

According to the publication, Chelsea chiefs are cognizant of the fact that Potter has had a number of key players out injured - thus affecting his plans.

Reece James, Raheem Sterling, and Thiago Silva are some of the important players who have been sidelined in recent weeks.

2. Putting medical team's advice ahead of his interests

Potter has been appreciated for taking into account of the medical team's advice ahead of his own interests.

One such scenario was on Saturday when he benched the likes of Reece James, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz for the fear of aggravating their injuries.

3. Strict demeanor in the dressing room

Despite being portrayed as soft, Potter is said to be tough and strict when having discussions with his players in the dressing room.

4. Taking responsibility

One outstanding thing through Chelsea's rough patch is that the English boss always takes responsibility of the team's shortcomings.

The board is said to appreciate the fact that Potter doesn't point fingers, especially during public interviews, something that sets him apart from some of his predecessors.

5. Potter's bravery to take the Chelsea job

Potter swapped Brighton for Chelsea at the time the Seagulls were enjoying an incredible run of form.

In contrast, the Blues had begun enduring a frustrating run of results under Thomas Tuchel, which was punctuated with the arrival of new owners.

However, Potter decided to take the risk of leaving his Brighton job where he was assured of longevity for the Stamford Bridge role which was riddled with uncertainties.

Chelsea owners are understood to be appreciating this act of bravery from Potter.

Chelsea's stance on Graham Potter

Sports Brief also reported on the Chelsea board reportedly having no intention of sacking Potter, despite the club's underwhelming run of results so far.

The Blues' manager has come under immense scrutiny since he succeeded Thomas Tuchel at the helm of Stamford Bridge back in September last year.

The former Brighton and Newcastle boss has been unable to steady the ship at the club, with the English club managing just one win in 10 outings.
