"I'm very sad, very down. There are no words to describe how we [Ghanaians] all feel about this situation. Personally, it's been difficult in the last few days because he is someone I'm close to," he said as quoted by GHANASoccernet.

Ayew believes the whole of Ghana is praying for Atsu to be found safe.

"As players, we have been trying to speak to each other, trying to get hold of the family to know what's happening because we are very sad about the situation and praying that he will be good and okay."

Meanwhile, rescuers have finally made their way to the building Atsu was in before it collapsed.

Atsu's family, fans worried over player's whereabouts

The family and representatives of Ghanaian winger, Atsu not yet established contact with the player following reports that he was rescued.

At the time, the Hatayspor forward was reportedly pulled out of the wreckage alive, several hours after he was trapped in a building collapse in Turkey.

A fan wrote:

"Death is inevitable but not the end of a journey, so whatever you do in life consider God first and the people around you then your future generation. There is an afterlife man know not so be careful with decisions.
"We still pray for Christian Atsu."

Another added:

"Christian Atsu still under rubble after nearly 8 days with no food or Water. Sovereign Lord, Show mercy to your child."

Atsu's wife breaks silence

Sports Brief also reported on Marie-Claire Rupio, Atsu's partner pleading with authorities in Turkey and Britain to help find the father of her children.

The Ghanian winger has been trapped under rubble following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake which hit the Asian country and neighbouring Syria.

While reports had suggested the player had been found and rushed to the hospital, other reports indicate he remains buried beneath the rubble.
