- Manchester United are yet to decide on how to proceed with the delicate situation
- Greenwood is still under contract with the club but his return could pose foreseeable hitches
Erik ten Hag has provided the first indications that he might be willing to welcome Mason Greenwood back to his first-team squad.
Greenwood's sexual assault charges were dropped at the start of the month paving the way for his likely return to competitive football. Manchester United have taken caution with the matter, promising to provide a way forward once it's done with its internal processes.
But it has now emerged that Greenwood talked with ten Hag in a private phone conversation as the Sun reported. The publication indicated that the head coach explained to the striker that his chances of coming back into the fold rested with the club and not him(ten Hag).
It is also the first time that ten Hag has talked to Greenwood since taking over the club last summer. Earlier communications had been done through a third party. The 21-year-old remains suspended by the club.

It remains unclear when the Red Devils will have a clear framework on what to do with Greenwood. He remains contracted at Old Trafford until 2025 but his return could cause friction from within and beyond.
