  • Manchester City were dragged through the mud by a Twitter account affiliated with the West Midlands Police
  • The Etihad Stadium was also dragged into the matter as the Citizens prepare to host Aston Villa on Sunday
  • This comes at a time when the defending champions have been hit with a new bombshell by the Premier League

Aston Villa police aimed a massive dig at Manchester City, ahead of a Premier League clash between the two sides this weekend.

The Citizens have always been ridiculed for their low attendance rates at the stadium, with manager, Pep Guardiola calling for more passion from the fans.

The low attendance, even on big Champions League nights, has often made rival fans call City's home stadium the 'Emptyhad' instead.

It is a common troll tool for football fans and the Aston Villa's police service jumped onto the trend via their Twitter account.

Man City trolled over 'Emptyhad'

The authorities were providing directions for the Premier League fans ahead of the game at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

"Fans travelling to the Emptihad on Sunday - there are no pubs around the ground happy to accept away fans. Away fans travelling via train will be welcome in Brunswick, Piccadilly Tavern & the Waldorf in the city centre. Advice for those travelling via coach & car, stop en route!"

The visible dig on City's stadium did not go unnoticed, with fans taking cognizance of the thinly veiled message.

Fans reacts to City trolling

@danrsvilla said:

"Even WM police know the actual name of their place."

@Bill4112 wasn't too amused by the tweet:

"No wonder no one respects the police any more, absolutely unprofessional."

Both sides will head into the fixture looking to bounce back from disappointing defeats last weekend. City went 1-0 down to Tottenham Hotspur, while Unai Emery's charges fell to Leicester City at Villa Park.

EPL clubs against Man City

This will be the first game that Guardiola's side is playing, since the Premier League charged them with more than 100 counts of financial breaches.

Sports Brief reported on the club currently treading difficult ground, with EPL clubs reportedly supporting the investigation into Man City.

These clubs also want the defending champions to be kicked out of the league - if found guilty of charges they are being accused of.
